How often should we take dance lessons?

There are a few important things to consider when determining how often to take dance lessons before your wedding.

1) Wedding planning mostly involves hiring professionals who are experts at providing a service. For example, you hire a DJ, and the DJ shows up at your wedding and spins an evening of amazing music. You hire a photographer, and they show up with the skills and expertise required to execute breathtaking photos of your day. Your first dance is different. You hire a professional to help you with your first dance, but they don’t show up your wedding and do the first dance for you! This part is up to you and your fiance to execute with grace and confidence. This means, it will take some work and effort over time.

2) Consider your schedules and how busy you are leading up the wedding. This is likely one of the busiest times of your lives. We know tons of couples who have simultaneously been purchasing a home, having a baby, graduating from a masters program, moving across the country, etc. all while planning their wedding! If you don’t have a ton of time to dedicate to your dance lessons, that’s ok! Just make sure you instructor knows and plan to keep the dance simple so that you’re not overwhelmed with another task. If, on the other hand, you’re a couple who wants to prioritize your dance lessons and make it a fun date night activity, then go for it! Most couples really enjoy the process of learning together and it provides a nice solace from the chaos of life. Setting aside 2-4x/month for a fun dance lesson date is a great way to stay sane during wedding planning.

3) Understand how much dance time you need to achieve your goals. Some couples want a fully choreographed dance with tons of exciting moves. Having lessons more frequently and over a longer period of time is required for choreography than it would be for a couple who just wants to level up their high school sway.

So, how often do we need to plan for based on these considerations?

Our most basic package includes 4 lessons because we’ve found that any less than 4 leaves couples feeling less than confident on their wedding day. Since we’re in the business of making you look AMAZING on your wedding day, we set you up for success even from our smallest package offering. This means, you’ll need at least 4-8 weeks, taking your lessons weekly or every-other week. This is the most common frequency couples choose for their wedding dance lessons. By coming in regularly, you’ll be sure to progress in each lesson. If you go too long in between lessons, you’re more likely to forget what you learned in the previous lesson or just feel somewhat disconnected from the process.

There are some exceptions to the norm, however. For example, f you’re learning a choreographed dance in a short time frame, you might need to come in twice per week. Or, if you are really dedicated to dancing at home, you may be able to put more space in between lessons.
