How many dance lessons do we need for our wedding?

This is a questions that we get from almost every couple that comes to us for wedding dance lessons. And, it makes sense! If you’ve never danced before, it can be hard to gauge how many lessons will get you to your goals. But not to fear! We have worked with hundreds of couples, and through experience have discovered how many lessons (on average) it takes to achieve a wide variety of goals. Here are 4 questions to ask yourselves when determining how many lessons to take before your wedding.

1) What are your goals?

Some couples just want to learn a very basic first dance, while others hope to learn multiple dance styles just for fun on top of learning a fully choreographed first dance. Some couples want to bring in friends or family to their lessons to practice a father/daughter dance or a group dance. Of course, the more goals you have in mind/the more advanced goals you have in mind, the more lessons you’ll need to take.

  • Just learn the basics for a simple first dance : “We just don’t want to look silly” “We just want to enjoy the dance without making it too complicated”

    • First Dance Basics Package (4 lessons)

  • We want a first dance that’s not too over-the-top, but still has lots of fun spins, a dip, and a general structure so we feel confident and look really good in front of our friends and family

    • Something-in-Between Package (6 lessons)

  • We want a semi-choreographed first dance. Our song has some special moments that we want to highlight, but we don’t want to choreograph the entire thing.

    • Something-in-Between Package w/ add-ons if needed (6-8 lessons)

  • We want a fully choreographed dance from start to finish with lots of impressive moves.

    • Fully Choreographed Dance Package (10+ lessons)

  • We want to just learn how to dance in general and have always been interested in being able to dance together, but we also want to be able to pick a first dance song and look good on our wedding day.

    • 6 Month Memberships (12-18 lessons)

    • or Something-in-Between Package with add-on lessons (6-8 lessons)

  • We want to bring in our parents for a few lessons to get comfortable for the father/daughter/mother/son/parent/child dances. We also want to learn a first dance.

    • Choose the appropriate first dance package + add on 2-3 more 90-minute lessons for the parent lessons

  • We want to learn some fun line dances or have friends come in for a few lessons so they can learn the basics. We also want to learn a first dance.

    • Choose the appropriate first dance package + add on 2-3 more 90-minute lessons for the lessons with friends.

2) Do you have prior dance experience?

Most couples coming into Love Springs Studios have no prior dance experience. That just means we need to start from the beginning and build up your basic skills. Typically, couples who have some prior dance experience learn more quickly and therefore either learn more within the package they choose or they can choose a smaller package and still reach their goal.

3) How much time do you have before your wedding?

The more extreme your goal, the more time we need. We recommend no less than 6 months for a choreographed dance, for example. Sometimes the timeline restricts the number of lessons we can fit in and therefore requires couples to change their goals slightly to fit the timeline. Since we recommend taking no less than 4 lessons before your wedding, starting your lessons no less than 2 months before your wedding is strongly recommended.

4) Do you have a budget in mind?

With all aspects of wedding planning, budget is always a piece of the decision making. Of course the larger packages will require a larger investment than smaller packages, so it’s important to make sure that your dance goals match your budget.
